Andrew Alan Johnson grew up not far from the Great Dismal Swamp. He received his BS in Biology/Anthropology from the College of William and Mary in 1999, then an MA in anthropology from the George Washington University in 2023, and finally a Ph.D. in cultural anthropology from Cornell University in 2010.

He has worked at Sogang University, Columbia University, Yale-NUS College, Princeton University, Ashoka University, and now at Stockholm University, as well as with Firaxis Games.
